The exhibition “Downtown Reclaim” in the City Gallery Vienna in the heart of Vienna exhibited over a period of 5 weeks right at the beginning of 2023 several artworks which visualized decisive moments and upheavals in my artistic expression. The name of the exhibition symbolizes the biggest upheaval of all of the last six years: my restored ability to integrate afternoon and evening activities in my beloved center of Vienna in a relaxed manner into my everyday life. Parts of my inner self that I thought were lost have come back to life. Nothing symbolizes this significant step better than the lively afternoon atmosphere of the district around the State Opera where the City Gallery Vienna is located.

Exhibited artworks

The artworks were presented in three consecutive sequences. The installation of the first two weeks was strongly experimental and combined different styles of my most recent work. In accordance with the title of the exhibition, the two outer panels of the triptych “Madreperla” were combined with the artwork „Lichtbogen“ in the middle to form a new work in a modern, cosmopolitan manner. Timeless spatial elegance frames flashing acceleration.

The second installation includes the meaningful three-part series „Wendepunkte” (Turning points) from summer 2020 which marks the beginning of my move towards larger formats. The three artworks “Résistance”, “Glücksspiel” and “Blutmond” were created on 80x80cm canvases with the same color palette. This trio is complemented in the installation by the artwork “Vergangenheitslichtkegel”, a semi-abstract work with a cosmic reference from last summer with a similar but more extensive color palette.

The last installation is a representative excerpt of my more realistic depictions of space which I have only put a stronger focus on in the last year. Two artworks visualize the phases of the moon in a playful way: “Tropenmond” on a smaller canvas measuring 80x40cm, and “Erdbeermond” on a larger canvas measuring 120x60cm. “Erdbeermond” corresponds in size to the work “Amethystnacht”, the depiction of a violet starry night.
