Lunar eclipse on a night in July.
On a hot July night in 2018, I was able to observe a total lunar eclipse, a blood moon, in Vienna. Although this artwork does not feature a spherical celestial body, the overall atmosphere immediately reminded me of this July night, which is why I chose the title BLUTMOND (literally blood moon).
During a total lunar eclipse, the moon passes completely into the Earth’s umbra. However, it is still illuminated by sunlight, which must first pass through the Earth’s atmosphere. Only the long-wave red components reach the moon. It therefore appears in a reddish-brownish light.
Solar and lunar eclipses are magical moments that allow us to experience strange light conditions and perhaps even bring about new states of consciousness within us. I have captured a portal of this kind in BLUTMOND.
